Born as Abhas Kumar Ganguly on 4th August, 1929, this great singer known as Kishore Kumar, affectionately called Kishore Da, was one of those very few singers who took risks and experimented with different styles of music. Considered to be a legend in Hindi film world, this multi talented persona has excelled as a playback singer, actor, composer, lyrics writer, director, producer and script writer. The songs of Kishore Kumar have an extraordinary blend of romance, emotions, naughtiness and melancholy.


Kishore Kumar was the youngest of the four siblings, Ashok Kumar, Anoop, Abhas and a sister Sati Devi. Kishore's brothers, Ashok Kumar and Anoop Kumar, entered the arena of Bollywood when he was still a child. With time, Kishore also developed an interest in movies as well as singing.


Kishore Kumar also started to show interest in music and often mimicked the great K.L. Saigal. Though he did not have any formal training in music, he decided to pursue it and followed his brothers to Mumbai. It was his dream to become a famous playback singer and be counted among legends. He was also famous for him marriage affairs. He married four times; his first wife was Ruma Ghosh. Second was the famous actress Madhubala, third with Yogeeta Bali and last with Leena Chandavarkar. He had two sons Amit Kumar (an accomplished playback singer) from Ruma, and Sumit Kumar from Leena.



There have been many ups and downs in Kishore da's life. He is said to have been paranoid about not being paid. His behavior with directors and producers had been very annoying and if not entertained his tantrums, they paid heavily for it.
